Box #25 is a USPS medium flat rate box.

Twenty fifth box has a piece of Tzalem also known as Caribbean walnut, 7" x 12" x 2.2" thick flat sawn, rough cut one side. There is a piece of Imbuia 7" x 11.75" x .9" thick, over pith. A piece of Western birch that is 4.25" wide x 11" long x 2.25" thick. This piece has 3 or 4 checks on one end, with some heartwood. A 4.5" x 12.5" x .75" piece of Black walnut with pith and oil stain. These woods are pictured. If you need more information, ask. There is other wood packed to assure the box is filled to capacity. These items will be great for turning and other projects.

Twenty sixth box has a piece of Leopard wood 3" x 12" x .8" thick, quarter sawn. There is a piece of Black walnut 9" x 12.75" x .75", flatsawn. A piece of Chechem that is 8" wide x 12" long x 1" thick. This piece has some flame grain. A near perfect 2.3" square x 11.75" piece of Osage orange. Two thins of sugar maple 11.75" wide x 9" long x .5" thick. These are cupped with some issues. A Red bud 1.65" square x 11.75" long blank with some knots. These woods are pictured. If you need more information, ask. There is other wood packed to assure the box is filled to capacity. These items will be great for turning and other projects.

Redheart 1.9" square x 11.9" long. Paela 4.25" x 12.5" x .9" thick with some sapwood and a knot. Paela 4" x 12.5" x .9" thick with some knots. These woods are pictured. Perfect, I'll get a check in the mail today or tomorrow. Had to spend yesterday tracking down my bag. Due to flight delays and the pilot saying the manuals in the cockpit were expired, we were delayed almost 2 hours from Houston to Denver. Which resulted in a very short connection in Denver. I made it, but my bag didn't.

Most of the contents of boxes 5 and 9 are in my university's new xylarium and much appreciated -- they will be a valuable teaching, research, and reference aid for many long years. Some pieces will stay with me, or go to friends of mine, and become beautiful things. Paul's labor of love can't be lost; it just diffuses out into the world.

Box 15: I can't make out the text on this 1" turning blank. Do you recall what it is? Also, the pen blank is unlabeled. It looks like the yew from the envelope you sent. Is it yew?



Box 27: can you tell me what this little block is. It only says "AND" or "ANO" on the end grain, but that might be cut off from a larger name. The wood itself looks kind of like mahogany, but I'm not sure.



Lastly, box 27 had a board labeled "ChecheM". Is this the same thing as "ChecheN"? I can't find any info on a wood called chechem.

@Mr. Peet just want to confirm I understand how this thread works. You post the boxes, whomever buys the box pays whatever you paid for shipping. If they feel its worth more than that to them they send you a check back for whatever amount they determine is fair?

Looking at that piece from #15, my guess is "Carpinus jap." -- i.e. Carpinus japonica, or Japanese hornbeam. I could be wrong.

I believe that "chechem" is an alternate spelling of "chechen," but maybe someone else can check me on that. . .

Yes Brian, each box likely has at least the shipping value. Most boxes exceed such and some by way more than others. You pay as you see fair. This thread started at a minimum at $25 a box. I was taking $3 to cover my hour per box to take picture(s), post them, pack boxes, and ship. Our USPS went and raised prices, so now I get $2 a box. Anything over the $25 goes to Paul's grandkids education fund. Thanks for looking.

Box 15, Japanese hornbeam, Carpinus japonica from my porch stock. Needed something that size and it worked. The other is just yew. He had cut up two yard plants 20 years ago. My guess is Taxus x media.

Thanks for clarifying. Maybe I'll see if the wood ID folks on Facebook know what the piece from #27 is, but it's pretty small anyway... Not much i can do with it to begin with. Might make some nice dollhouse furniture for my daughters.
