If I had a helical head to put in there, then no, not necessary. I haven't yet made the decision to purchase new knives or a helical cutterhead, although it is under consideration. The knives are dull so such decision is pending soon.
And you can have the spare blades. Sharp the blades in head Gibbs. And if you want the the pm knife adjuster. I do not want to advertise to sell. But will sell all the above for $10 + postage.

That's a generous offer, Mike, and I'll take you up on it. Will it fit in the box with the hand planes?

To change tis thread back to original, not that I give a damm about thread theft, says original thief, I have adjusted inserts on new helix head twice and I am still not satisfied with jointer finish. Knifes are a pain but inserts can be worse. Planer with like 150 is finally acceptable, where is tearing hair out emoji. I havev2" of jointer that is straight but crap, a beaver would be cheaper

Well this was easy to find. The guage. Blades, I cannot find. Worse. I put head back in new heads wooden box. Cannot find. About 1/3 thru cleaning shop. It could be anywhere. I will keep looking as I clean. You can have this.

Mike, thank you very much for the offer of this piece but I don't think that I can use it. It must be a part of the newer version of the jointer, mine was made in the late '50's and does not seem to have a piece like this.

If you come across the knife adjuster I am very interested in that.

I have the same problem sometimes, I know that something is right there but cannot put my hands on it to save my life! :haggle:

Back to 20" planer. After changing all the inserts. Which is a chore, i was disappointed with finish. Went through and re did inserts that were off. Now, perfect. Now back to jointer.

You say its perfect, but I think it needs independent review. You have my address.

You could make a lot of money selling planers that yield such pieces!

Yadiyadiyada.
you get rewards by buying in bulk. 4-5000 lbs at a time. some have sat in pile a while- some just out of kiln. almost all sourced as logs... Logs- as risk- buying whole logs goes up- so does rewards. You find then buy a primo log- haul it 400 miles. mill it- sticker and stack- put in kiln- remove from kiln- cut plane market... that is how i get nice timber- I work for it...

Working up an honest sweat. I also work. I don’t sweat though. Unless there’s an audit. Those are stressful.

I get rewarded with money you get rewarded with nice wood. In a perfect capitalistic world I would use that money to buy your wood. But I don’t. There are other more important things to buy.
Such is the system we are a slave to. (I’m not saying there is a better system I’m just complaining about this one. Gosh I feel old)

Do not complain about it, change it. One day at a time...
