Potential mallet head material for Mike Hill

This is probably the ultimate source for lignum vitae. I spoke to them a few years ago and they have warehouses full of timbers up to 20" square. They buy from shipyards around the world.

Being that they are a bearing supplier, do the have a minimum order? Do they even sell to individual consumers?

I got the impression that they would, though I never purchased anything.
I fired off an email to the president, so hopefully he responds. They are right outside Richmond, so even if they wont ship to me my parents only live right up in Fredericksburg. Here's to hoping he'll sell me some 🤞

UPDATE: Wow, Bob called me back almost immediately. He's a suuuper nice guy. We talked everything from Lignum to engineering to VDOT. He says they have 20 tons of off-cuts for sale, which is sold by the pound. The unit cost is dependent on the size of the pieces selected. So I'll definitely be making a trip over to him next time I'm at my parents house! Huge thanks to Dave for telling us about this place.

With 20 tons for sale, just maybe other WB members can get in on this bonanza!

This is great information! I'm in Richmond regularly for work and drive right thru Powhatan. Perhaps I need to take along a big suitcase next time I'm there for a few days! :cowboy:

Oh I am interested. Whenever you pick it up, keep me in mind. Also, @ScoutDog might like the less salubrious offcuts.
Guaiacum was one of the first species added to CITES, so it's long had an international trade ban on it. Though I'm not sure if it's a full ban or just on raw material. If the latter, you might be able to import finished work made from guaiacum. It was imported to the UK for hundreds of years, and it seems there's still a lot of it there. I have a friend over there with 1.5 tons of guaiacum. He gets some of it from old table legs for snooker tables. That might be an option if there's no ban in importing finished pieces.

Introducing the blockhead mallet. It’s a 4” cube with a 12” 2x2 handle epoxied to the cube. And of course a little poly on it to finish it. It’s a finished product.

Once received, the buyer “could” knock the handle off the cube, refine the mallet and reassemble.

But wait, if you act now, your order will be doubled for free! Just pay separate shipping and handling.

Ah no! I forgot cites. Again.

Hi @Big Ry really interesting to know about this supplier! if you do find out, I’d be interested in knowing what species of Guaiacum they have in cut offs, and what they actually charge per pound. And if they would want to bother with a sale of $100 or less.
