The bidding got driven up by some idiot that didn’t think through everything and already has 2 lathes with no need or space for a third.

I’ll be up your way @Tom Smart next week to pick it up.

I really hate (love in reality) this site for all the temptations everyone dangles in front of everyone. But now I’ve got to figure out how to get this lathe, move it, etc. by myself in just a few days and what to do with it once I get it to the house. I’m in scramble mode now 🤪
That is funny. Congrats

Well hello s*******6!

You are gonna have to take the thing apart, put it on a mover’s dolly. Taking it to MD?
Let me know when you will be here. I might be able to help.

You did get a great deal.

That’s crazy me! And yes, I’ll plan on taking it apart and then hauling it to MD. I’ve got an Explorer that I moved Nova Galaxi in, but I’m thinking it might make a lot more sense to just rent a U-Haul trailer and strap the parts down for this one. Much appreciated Tom!

Powermatic has a mobility kit, a set of wheels, for the 3520. I did a quick search but did not see it.

If you do rent a UHaul get something low and with a ramp. Then a small jack of some kind to slip Dollie’s under or to put casters on. Maybe then won’t have to disassemble.

Thanks again; great advice and right in line with what I was thinking other than I will disassemble it. Unfortunately I need to do that as I need to go down a grassy hill to get it in the walk out basement in MD.

When you get a second Tom, would you mind confirming it’s an 8mm hex I need to attach the legs to the bed? I’m guessing that’s all I really need in regards to disassembly.

Congrats Steve! Take a look at using a hydraulic lift table, not cheap but you saved a lot of cash and the 1000 lb rated table is a good way to get into truck bed or trailer with doors. Also makes moving around shop easier.

The first half of the trip went incredibly well. I rented a U-haul trailer and they had a forklift, so I simply unbolted the legs and had them set the bed and headstock on some 2x’s in the trailer. I then strapped the legs to the pallet and strapped everything down tight and was back on the road.

The fun part is now unloading it on my end with just a hand cart and getting it all down a grassy hill and into the basement later this afternoon. All in 95-100 degree heat and by myself 🤬. More to follow on that adventure later today….hopefully 🤞

Good luck with phase 2, Steve. What kind of shape is it in now that you are up close and personal?

Mission accomplished- the mission being just simply getting it in the house. That’s a hell of a job for one person in 100 degree heat, but I made it.

Whoever designs headstocks should have stayed in school an extra year or two. Wow, what a pain. That’s not a knock on Powermatic as they are all pretty much like that, but man that was tricky. There is just no good way to handle it.

It’s all in the basement and it will take me some time to now organize the layout so I can fit it in the space where I’m going to put it, but for tonight it’s a cold beer and some Motrin.

Getting it put back together….that’s another story for another day!

Overall I was very pleased with it Tom. Given that it was for the public school system, I can’t imagine it was ever used for much more than spindle turning or small bowls from dried wood. There were no tell tale signs of the spray from large, green blanks. There was a spot of rust on the bed ways, but I think with some paste wax, steel wool, and elbow grease it will buff out just fine. I don’t have any elbow grease right now though 💪
