Welcome from the southeast US, the state of Georgia.
We truly have folks from all over the world. Glad to have

Welcome! Looking forward to hearing more about this 'R&D'.:pleasantry:

I currently reside in the county of Essex. As yet, I am not a wood worker, but instead specialise in military grade forensic reconstruction. I wish to recreate plant cells within a virtual biosphere for computer simulation purposes.

The primary focus of the project is the recreation of soft tissues for a variety of military and law enforcement purposes, whether it be for surveillance, targeting or identification purposes...

The inclusion of plant cells will broaden the original remit.

Bench1: My use of the word: variegated simply refers to the co-existence of both the heartwood and the sapwood in the same piece of timber. Might it be possible to post a list of the premium grade Australian timbers you have for sale? I cannot accept Burr material with cracks and checks - bark incursions are, however, acceptable. I usually expect to find sanding at 200+ grit. A photograph of the finished blank is often persuasive!

Hey scott, i had a bit of a poke around the shed and came up with a few different species you might be able to use.
I would have to cut the sizes you required as most of the timber is in burl or half log form or broken down to between 2 and 5” thick peices in varying lengths, as it is used for turning.
I have: gidgee , myall , yarran, wilga, quinine, doolan, dead finish, red box, Brigalow, emu apple, outback rosewood, river oak, greybox burl, redgum burl, blackbutt burl, brown mallee burl, red mallee burl.
Cheers. ben

Thank you kindly, Ben. Do please send two photographs: one of the Burrs of Grey Box, Red Gum, Black Butt and Brown Mallee; one of the figured Gidgee, Myall, Yarran, Wilga, Quinine, Doolan, Dead Finish, Red Box, Brigalow, Emu Apple, Outback Rosewood and River Oak timbers to my personal WoodBarter address. I am unable to accept material which is not of premium grade, nor indeed, burrs with evidence of cracks/checks and the absence of multiple eyes! Red Lancewood (Dead Finish) timber is a new addition to the list, and particularly appealing!

Scott -- UK.

hey scott, heres a couple of pics for ya.
First pic left to right or anticlockwise: greybox burl, blackbutt burl, brown mallee burl, redgum burl.
Second pic left to right: outback rosewood , emu apple , yarran , quinine , myall.
Third pic left to right: doolan , wilga , river oak , redbox , brigalow and down in front gidgee.
Fourth pic : dead finish,( aka red lancewood). [attachment=13476] [attachment=13477] [attachment=13478] [attachment=13479]
Scott, these timber are not commercially available timbers and there for are not kiln dried “premium grade” that you speak of, you cant just stroll down to the local store and buy this stuff Most of them come from very inhospitable desert country, where your thought quite mad to be out there the heat cutting the stuff. also 99% of the Australian burl ive ever worked has at least some small surface checks .
I can do my best to cut around the cracks that these timbers are renowned for and send you what i would consider premium for each species.
Cheers. ben
