If you can collect a few sections of the persimmon, there are several of us I am sure would be able to find a use for persimmon mallet heads and persimmon chisel handles, and ( if the wood has any character,) a few thin pick guard type pieces. Persimmon being in the ebony family, it will be hard wearing wood.

Certainly, I will have plenty and would be glad to.

Not saying for freebies. Persimmon has value. I am thinking that most of the members on woodbarter use pieces firewood size. Sometimes the sawyers slabs have enough useable wood that isn't boards to make us happy. The butt end of the slabs often get wide enough to make things from. And any branch areas are immediately suspect for figured wood.

The pith was not near as as big as I thought. The sawyer noticed it as well. But there are some checks showing on the logs even thought I applied several coats of Anchorseal. Sawyer said he would saw perpendicular to the checks to keep the boards behaving better. Some of logs have cross checks though, so not sure what he will do about that.

Do not worry, there will be more checks before it is dry. Part of the journey

@bnew17 Good evening! @2feathers Creative Making Frank is correct! Persimmon will sell like hotcakes here. I, for one, use relatively smallish pieces compared to some, and I would love to work some of it when the occasion arises. Thanks for sharing the story!

Pictures?
Right now I just have 9 , 1,000lb tow straps on them and a few 8/4 cedar boards. Im going to add 2 , 55 gal drums full of water on top of them and some big slabs of concrete. The tricky part is fitting my tractor with loader in my shop to put the slabs on top.

Great looking slabs! Will take a couple years to dry, probably. Good that you are putting weight on top of them and you have them well stickered in the shop! Chuck

They are stickered, strapped and weighted on top. Good enough as it is. Just remember to tighten the straps occasionally as they dry and shrink. Put a fan blowing across them in the beginning so they don't mold.

Thanks for the tips. I certainly will. This is the first time I have dried anything besides the cedar.
