Question for Nubs & Stubs

Hey Jerry ( @Nubsnstubs ),

You included two pieces of this burl in that last box you sent me. I was able to splice these together to get a very usable slice. But I can't remember what kind of burl it is. Is this palo verde? Or mesquite? Or something else entirely?

Doug, you need to get pictures of the flat area and burled side for me to figure it out. The color shown is tossing me for a loop. Very possible it is Palo Verde as I think I selected carefully what I was sending you when I packed the stuff for you. I believe I have another piece of this lying around............ Nubs

Doug, I found a couple pieces that look liker what you are showing. Then I started looking at my fire hazards, and found some Salt Cedar (Tamarisk), and determind that the wood I have here is the cutoffs of what I sent you. So, if the pieces I have here is from the actual wood I sent, it is Tamarisk.





If the wood you have is more towards faded yellow, it might be Palo Verde.

I just looked again at you're pictures, and it looks like there is a bit of difference in the colors. ................. Nubs

Thanks Jerry. The pieces I have are most definitely pinkish in color, not yellowish. The non-burl piece (with more consistent grain) does resemble the big piece on the right in your 2nd photo. I was thinking the palo verde stuff was different (and the piece that was marked palo verde was different) and the mesquite was darker and more red. So tamarisk must be the correct call. It's not super important to me - it's really pretty burl regardless of what it is. Thanks again.
