Ambivalent - Nah! A diatribe was in the making about the battle between art and that which is machine made, but I decided - why? It was scrapped. They're here and will stay. I realized that there is a greater crime against humanity underfoot. My main gripe is that they replace PEOPLE. Can the cnc and laser do things faster, yep. But the age-old quandry remains - "Just because you can, doesn't necessarily mean you should"! If one highlights and venerates the recklessness of pursuing technological capability without ethical consideration - is that progress? I cannot build a 30 story building without a crane. No amount of manpower can be utilized to haul a 10 ton beam or a 3 yard bucket of concrete up 30 stories. Therefore, a crane is not always replacing PEOPLE. However, the use of many machines such as cnc, et al.. is intended to replace PEOPLE. PEOPLE who have families to support and lives to live. And for what? Greater profit for the few! Am I a Marxist -nothing further from the truth. But I do respect and venerate PEOPLE - the PEOPLE who create things, the PEOPLE that I love. It was PEOPLE who built this country, not machines. Machines helped, surely, but mainly they were there to do it for less cost and greater profit for some!
