Here it is. I almost refinished it. I had to stop because it was late and couldn’t keep the community waiting. (I knife finish) I don’t put a finish on my treen because it gets washed out anyway and wood is naturally antibacterial so there is no real reason to do it either as long as it is taken care of correctly.

I actually don’t know what wood it is. It didn’t carve like walnut but otherwise was very reminiscent of it. I can post more pics of the other half log that I still haven’t carved for over ten years if someone is interested.
EDIT: the second half log says wych elm on it so that’s what it is. The heartwood is surprisingly dark.

And yes that is my super ugly dining table because my kids are still too young to be trusted with a nice one.

My favorite would be this yarn bowl that I turned, it was one of the first ones I had done. The grain and figure on this bowl is awesome. But honestly, what makes it my favorite is the person that I made it for. The lady that received this is a prolific knitter. She is also an incredible friend who came alongside me to help me get healthy by being an accountability partner for exercise in physical fitness. That was 40 pounds ago and two years ago. I’m still working to get to my goal. She was very excited to receive this, and uses it all the time.

Story, figure and craftsmanship!!! You win! I hope you reach your goal. It sounds like you’re on track.
