Hey Everyone! I'm trying to track down some Rainbow Eucalyptus. I know it grows in Hawaii and is native to the Philippines. I've also heard rumors that there are transplants in CA, but haven't got my eyes on any yet. I need a small piece, big enough to get 2 pen blanks out of. I'm aware that the color is only bark deep. However, this tree has a deep sentimental connection to a friend of mine who lost a family member in a car wreck. Their home town planted a Rainbow Eucalyptus as memorial to their lost daughter.

So, even thought the wood isn't colorful, you can understand why it would be special. I'm looking to make a couple of keepsakes for the family. If you have, can get access to, or know where to source a small piece of Rainbow Eucalyptus, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

With Hawaii being one of the places it grows, I'd check in with @Don Ratcliff to see if he might have some, or have a source for some.

Someone just inquired about a Rainbow Euc tree recently, but I can't find that thread.

Have some beeswing euc. Nice figure. No clue what variety it is.
beeswing comes from the blue ghost euc or coolibah tree they have an box bark on the trunk and smooth limbs. the rainbow euc and others that are smooth bark all the way down are notoriously bad for shrink and crack. some much so as to be nearly unusable for woodworking. we don't have any landscape rainbow eucs her in las vegas that i am aware of. not sure of their climate requirements

Tyler,
I send notice to 3 guilds in my area. Got two replies so far. Both are wet wood. I may get more replies in few days.

Got two more replies. Tyler... Dude... where you be??

Hey Spinartist! Sorry for the delay. I was unplugged over the weekend. Had to get in one more camping trip before the weather turns cold. Thank you a million times for reaching out to your guilds. Did anyone have some on hand. Wet is fine, I can dry it. Looking forward to the details!

The Rainbow Eucalyptus is on its way! Thanks again @Spinartist! Your friend was a huge help. As a thank you I'm sending him some CA grown manzanita and some King William Pine from Australia.

He said he appreciated it, as neither species sounded like something he'd find fallen over in southern Florida. :lol2:
