New York City has started having these tree identification programs- Central Park, Older parks, historical districts, to name a few. Brooklyn Heights is one of the oldest neighborhoods on NYC landmarked by New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (including other historic districts throughout the 5 boroughs + Long Island). This is a fairly good example of the tree ID program in Willow Street in the historic district of Brooklyn Heights- this is about 4 blocks worth of trees identified on the street block.

Second pic down, looks to be a 'Crimson King' or other red leaf 'Norway Maple', not Sugar maple. Not sure on the Pin oak, might be, but could be a Southern Red as they were planted in the city at one time as well.

I wonder how long after death they could still milk a snake for anti-venom stock? The stuff is expensive and you'd think they could use dead snakes as well as live ones, at least until the proteins start breaking down.

Bought this a couple of years ago and had it stashed away in a plastic tote. I misplaced “lost” one of my stakes that goes to a turkey decoy and started digging in the tote . I saw this and noticed something that I hadn’t before . Curly Maple! For those wondering it is the backside of a vintage fish fillet board. They sure made the good back then. I messaged a PA guy. This is what he said....
"I tried sending you a more thorough PM. They would need a venomous snake permit, snake of legal size, and in season after 2nd saturday in June."
Hope this helps. You'll have to look up reg for size and all. Hard to believe you have to have a venomous snake permit for a dead snake but trust me, I know how some regs don't make sense

So.....no skin. Best I left it lay along the road.
I never thought about the skin being useful to someone. But after you mentioned it, I could see there would have been all kinds of problems. No permit, out of season, transporting across state lines......for a start.
Yes.....lots of their regs make no sense.

At first glance regs like that make no sense. The problem comes with people (or I should say the small percentage of dishonest people) - they'll claim they found it as roadkill but how does a wildlife officer tell the difference between one that was hunted and killed on purpose versus one somebody found as roadkill. It's the same with bird feathers. You can't possess raptor or migratory bird feathers, even if you just found a single feather while hiking in the forest. So the default reg is you just can't possess them, period. If people were honest, the regs could be more common sense and allow making use of a dead animal or bird.

Does that fillet board have a big clamp on the other side? Clamp the tail or head in there, slide the knife above the backbone and cut all the way down to the tail. Flip that fillet over without cutting it loose from the skin and slide the knife along the skin and voila, instant fillet. It works some of the time.
