In this day and age where our society seems to crave heroes so badly, I think it's a good idea that we remind ourselves that heroes do more than just don a uniform everyday and collect a paycheck. Nothing wrong with that at all but just joining the military or the police force and wearing the uniform and passing out speeding tickets even in high crime areas does NOT make you a hero.
Try to ignore the POTUS and listen to the heroic actions of a real hero. I don't have the link handy but I've read the detailed account of Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins' conduct throughout his unbelievable ordeal. It is comparable to Audie Murphy and Sgt. York, and many others whose names most of you would not recognize.
You don't have to be in the military or civil service to be a hero either. Does anyone remember Lenny Skutnik, or the hundreds of thousands of others like him that have jumped into the flames or freezing waters or fought off assailants or bears or thugs that were attacking someone else but they got involved anyway when they had nothing to gain and everything to lose? They were heroes too.
The definition of a hero is different to all of us. I'm not putting down anyone else's opinion of one just giving my own. I think the status of hero should be reserved and not passed out like the Queen passes out Knighthood which also means little of nothing anymore. A hero is beyond mere "Knighthood".
