Hi ,
I'm an absolute greenhorn to lathes.
I've built tons of model planes, a table and general carpentry stuff.
What are some good smaller to medium sizes lathes?

David, welcome to WB. I'm pretty sure you're gonna like it here.

I need to get something straight before I do any more commenting on this thread. Your profile indicates you are from Ozark, Missouri. Is that the town of Ozark, or the area of Missouri called the Ozarks? It's important to me. ............ Nubs

I have a friend that lives in Ozark. I gave him a lathe that maybe with a little persuasion from me he might be willing to sell it because he's not using it. It is old 12" Delta made in 1947. I believe I replaced the bearings when I had it and change the motor to a 1 1/2 HP 3ph. I gave it to him as I had just gotten a Powermatic and didn't need two lathes. I don't know what it is worth other than the cost of a VFD because he had to get one to use it. He might not have gotten one yet.I don't know as I haven't been there in a couple years and he's had had it for over 5-7 years. ............. Nubs

Probably find it hard to beat the deal Jerry is offering, especially if it's right there in the same town.
