Gonna be taking a short trip to Ft Belvoir, VA and on into DC for some museum look ins. It's been 35 years since I've been in the area, so any recommendations of other things to see and to eat - or to avoid! One of my sisters and I are taking our Dad to the Museum of the Army. To honor his Dad's service (Old Army - 2 wars and other conflicts) he bought some pavers - The last thing on his short bucket list is to see those pavers! I already know probably not good to wear a MAGA hat! so any ideas?

The Air & Space Museum at Washington Dulles airport (also part of the Smithsonian museums) is great, and often overlooked. Has a space shuttle in it amongst other cool vintage airplanes. Chuck

We were thinking the Natural history and the Air and Space. I have already been to the Natural History, but all we saw were the gems and minerals. Also did the Castle. Also thinking about the Museum of the Bible. Was hoping for a either a woodworking/tool/purdy wood museum, or a museum with a bunch of ship models, but doesn't seem to be one around there.

Just passed someplace called Brokeback mountain --- or maybe it was hogback ridge or something such as that! Then came across some place called Wytheville. I was impressed, thought it would only have a place to get hog jowl or owl fritters, but they actually have a Mcdonalds!!! Now bedded down in Roanoke. I waved going through Wytheville.

Mike, just catching up with this thread. Depending on where you get off Interstate 81, you could pass by/through Leesburg. But if you take Interstate 66 you will swing east of us.

You will enjoy the Army Museum, 248 years of history. I don't like to admit this, but the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico is a first-rate museum as well. Worth a stop if you have time.

As mentioned any of the Smithsonian Museums are a great place to spend a day. My vote would be for the Udvar-Hazy Center, the Air and Space Museum's Annex at Dulles Airport - Space Shuttle "Discovery", an Air France Concord, Enola Gay are just a few must see aircraft. There is also a restoration center there where you might catch them refurbishing some history.

You must have been a G. I. rather than a Jar Heard. We had a lot of jokes about them when I was in the Army. But, they have the same attitude as we have about each other. One uncle was a Jarhead during the Korean Conflict, and and a bunch of high school friends got drafted into the Marines during the Viet Nam War. ............. Jerry (in Tucson)

I remember when I visited Eric, he met us at the freeway, and then we followed him to his place. After the first mile everything was ok, then when we descended into a holler, all I could hear was that banjo stuff like in that movie with I think Burt Lancaster. It was "woohooo where we going"?? Debbie was moving around her seat in a nervous fit.

When we pulled into his driveway, I saw a Cop Car, and figured everything would be ok.

Just kidding about the music thing, but Eric does live in a beautiful 'Holler'. ............... Jerry (in Tucson)
