Almost 6 inch diameter and hollowed through a 5/8 inch opening. Getting down to 1/2 inch routinely will be difficult.

I don’t think so. In the first picture you can see how it takes a big curve. If it were the pith line this would have to have been a crotch or limb pieces. An extremely wonky crotch or limb. @Alancw was it?

Not really an extreme. It is a 6" wide vessel, so 3" would be half. It looked like a knot on the side and the red line looked like it was connected. Seeing the red line had check hashes that did not show in the other wood was also a hint of something different than regular wood.

Good point. However, upon looking again I can see the orientation of the rings. The red line runs tangential to the rings. It is not inside the “cylinders” as it should be if it were the pith.
