Over two years to complete. Looked at it for 6 months working up the nerve. Rough turned. Sat for close to 2 years drying. Just finished it up. Still needs finish. Not sure if I will finish it as a salad bowl or decorative. 27ā€ across and 10ā€ deep.

Impressive! Not just for the size of it - the form is beautiful too, and would look great small or large.

Very cool! I like how you got creative with the Cole jaws. What's the species?

Incredible. Agree with Greg on Cole jaws, but reverse hollowing…..I would have pondered it another few years before tackling!! Beautiful piece.

Amazing, in every respect. What a beautiful large bowl.

Edited to add - Did I miss the wood species? If not, what is it if you know.

That was a huge chunk of wood. Nicely done.

Guessing that came from a big black cherry tree. Amazing that size bowl came out with any large cracks.

I stand in awe! What an amazing accomplishment! The sheer weight alone when you started must have been mind-blowing! Congrats! Chuck

Epic bowl. That looks extremely dangerous. Mahogany at that size must have cost you arms and legs though.

It was free. A tree was taken down on my street. It took 2 tree trimmers and myself to flip it onto my cart.

Excellent piece! I've made 21" bowls. Will never do one that big again.
Great thing about Florida Mahogany is it's very stable & hardly cracks.

Brilliant Cole jaw extensions! Maybe the Jolly Green Giant will buy it—amazing project. Let’s see the shaving pile!
