Hello everyone

We are looking for samples for a scientific research on wood chatoyance.
We just need pieces big enough to fit one sample (i.e. at least 6x1.75", any thickness) or small veneer offcuts (at least 7x4"), from any available wood type.

Is anybody up for supporting us?

We are based in Italy, so many of the species that are common in the US may be uncommon in our country and hence most appreciated:
Red Oak
White Oak
Black Cherry
Hard Maple
Bigleaf Maple
Hickory
Honey Locust
Eastern Red Cedar
Butternut
Redwood
Souther Yellow Pine
White Pine
Pecan
Sassafras
... anything else? Everything would help!

Hi Paolo,
I might have a couple of leftover samples. I won't be back home until Monday (I am doing fieldwork this week).
Next week I will check what I have.
I think I have some padouk, a eucalyptus, cerejeira, maybe a Nothofagus. I also have vera wood but I am sure is thinner than what you require
Let me see on Monday what I found on my stash.

@ripjack13 sorry for the confusion... "we" is the team who is working on this research, while "me" is Paolo, one of the members. I am doing the woodworking part of the research.

@Gonzalodqa thank you, no rush at all! Those you mentioned are very useful, especially cerejeira (it gets us to the 5-different-sources target)

I will check and send you a picture of what I have. I am pretty sure the Cerejeira have spalting that might dull any chatoyance

This would be great! We don't see much southeast asian wood here...

@chatometry , is the expectation that contributors to your project would mail samples directly to you in Italy or do you have a middle-man collecting North American wood samples for you? Shipping costs for even one small piece of wood seem to be quite expensive and I would worry you might not get the abundance you want/need.
