I'm sure many of you already do this but I didn't see it posted anywhere so thought I'd add it just in case some haven't thought of it. Next time you go to a fast food place or somewhere, grab a couple extra of the little plastic containers they have for condiments. Get the lids too if they have them. Then, next time you're doing some serious sanding, try to do it with the piece sitting on a clean, flat board like masonite or something. Save the saw dust in one of those little containers. Then, when you need a little filler to fill a joint that didn't quite get all the way locked, or a little defect in a board or a divot in a burl slice, you can grab the container that best matches the piece you're working on and use it to fill the gap. You can fill the gap with saw dust and then carefully wick in thin CA and while it's still wet quickly sand the area with 200 grit to lock in the saw dust. Or you can mix up a little thin putty using your saw dust and wood glue and carefully trowel that into the gap using the edge of a razor blade or a putty knife. Once it dries, sand it and finish it like usual. By having the saw dust already handy, it saves time having to stop what you're doing to make some.
