As Chuck said, all my samples (from 10 different logs) came from Paul. Here you can find some pictures showing the range you can expect, going from yellow to green to black.


I found some green in pistacia terebinthus but I still don't have a page about it.

I did buy a copy, yes. This sort of thing is right up my alley. Although I'm new to woodworking, I've taken a liking to the finishing stage and in particular showcasing depth and visual features of the material. I've done countless experiments with different custom finishes and finishing techniques in the 1 year I've been at this. I also have a background in academic research; my masters thesis was on developing a testing protocol for stimulating snow loading on a roof in a lab setting. So the technical side of your book speaks directly to me lol. I have not read the book yet (i just got it last night), so i can't speak on the contents in detail. I just flipped through it to see what was inside.

I will be looking for this green osage. Being from Philly, I'm an Eagles fan, so green is always a color that will be useful to me in woodworking. And it would be nice to have options that were harder than poplar and easier to finish than LV, ALV, and verawood. I'll also check out the paw-paw and pistacia that have been suggested. I'm not familiar with either of those either.

Not a single father, but I'm the father of a 3mo old and a 2yr old. The 3mo old has been real fussy every night and the 2yo is full on in the terrible twos and is repeating everything we say. So when she tells us "no" when we ask her to do something or says "stop it", i can feel my father's rage coming up from the depths lol The toddler is my carbon copy, and I'm stubborn and neurotic about a lot of things. The introspection gained through parenthood is invaluable.
