Some of you may have noticed a new feature called Similar Threads. They pop up as you type in your thread title and also at the bottom of existing threads. Often the threads have nothing to do with what your topic is. Sometimes they do though. This is a simple 2 question poll whether we want this add on or not. I sort of like it. If we vote yes I will send the author a donation - if not I will remove the add on.

Two reasons I voted no...

Once this was implimented, I've noticed a ton of old threads being brought back to life.

Most of the related threads are... unrelated. Thread titles alone make it very difficult to link relationships between threads. If it only pulled from the same sub-forums, it might be of better use... but I still think it will cause a bunch of old threads to be revived.

Of course, JMO

I voted yes but I have soured on it for the very reasons you cite. Although I like old threads revived in general, I only like them when someone brings one back up for a specific reason and too many are popping back up. Jon I'm thinking we should run a new poll, and open the voting only to you and I - sound good?

Sounds good. Haha. I just kept wondering today why there were so many threads being brought back up, and then I realized what it was.

I voted No but I do see it having potential.....

If it could be set to bring up similar posts from within a set time period like 6 months or something like that I would be more in favor of it. I have found some interesting things because of the suggestions it has made.

I was on the fence till the old thread regurgitate comment was considered. I think if our search is decent (I think WB's is), this shouldn't be needed.

It doesn't seem to have slowed down the site responsiveness any or I would have voted no.

I kind of like being reminded of old threads, it saves me having to remember everything.

I'm slowly reversing everyone's votes - one every few hours so that no one will notice. Once a majority of members have reversed their vote, I'll go ahead and act according to the collective will and remove the add on. I wouldn't do it without a consensus view though . . . . .
