Yea, agreed
Here’s another example of starting with mostly blonde and adding a couple colors to really pop the grain.
I topically start with dark dye(I usually use Marine black leather dye,sand down a bit, then highlight with red, then bright yellow.

I’ve used same process for box elder that has little or no flame.
