Its standard magnolia found in Virginia.. pretty sure it wasnt here 200 years ago but imported from prolly Jefferson, but I dunno Southern Magnolia Id presume and I have over the years had some that spalted incredibably and others that did not.. same with most ,, Holly as well.Does magnolia spalt easily? My understanding is that there's a few hundred magnolia species. Wish I could help or advise ,, around here I havent really noticed a different species of the smae tree. they all appear the same.. some get huge,,, and put off big pods which can be made to scales as well. have found some incredible Magnolia over the years.My understanding is that there's a few hundred magnolia species.
