Spalted Maple turning

My brother-in-law asked me if I would turn something for my sister that he could give her on their anniversary. He had this chunk of wood that’s been kicking around for about 15 years. As I was turning it, this hole materialized. All I could do is go with it. It’s a 2” diameter advanced ventilation feature now.

His gift to her was a hit, she loved it!
