Yesterday, 90, 10-15% humidity and gusts to 45 mph. Fire started to west. In 3 hrs it was 3500 acres. Spawned a bunch of spot fires, jumped the river and moved into residential areas to northwest. 1000's evacuated and probably 100+houses gone. Today will be hot and dry with 30 mph gusts. Not good. All blowing away from us. Sunrise was blood red this morning. This is worst fire event we have had.
Going to be a long day for emergency workers.

Hope it stays away from you Mike, and hope conditions change and they can get it under control.

To get to us, it has to burn through the whole city. Or new fire to south. We are safe. But this fire is a monster.
 
That's probably become the highest priority fire in the nation now and they'll move lots of resources that way. That's what happened with the fire that threatened the town of Sister's a week ago.

I read they flew a 747 fire plane in last night.

They had big news stories on the national news tonight, mostly about the WA/Spokane fires, plus Oregon.

All the best for you, and all our Pacific NW members. Wow - unbelievably dry and hot “out west” - north to south….
 
The papers are reporting we're just under 2 million acres burned so far in Oregon and we still have Aug, Sep and probably most of Oct to go.

It was cooler and much less wind yesterday. Air quality is horrible, but fires slowed. Need a mellow day today. Most activity is north of spokane now.

65,000 people evacuated. 700 structures. What a disruption.
People do not really understand how the west really is. 2 things, fire and water. In the 1500s water was close to same price as gold in southern Ca. Here we have plenty of water but still on edge of desert.
Largest wildfire in USA history happened in 1910. Hot dry low humidity and up to 70 mph winds. 2 million acres in 2 days. Record snow winter of 1909/10. Worst avalanche was on Steven's pass. Took out a passenger train. Stopped raining in April. Mother nature can be cruel....
 
That’s heartbreaking to hear Mike. We had a severe drought and about a county east of us got to about 36000 acres before under control. Prayers to you and others affected.

Yes, he started the Lost Trail fire. It burnt most of the houses. 65,000 evacuated. 1000 structures lost. 14 missing. At dawn air quality was 250.
Guy that started it was a felon, killed his father.
