Japanese “viewing stones” are natural stones paired with a wood base. The point is to emphasize the natural beauty of the stone. I am always running into beautiful little burls and such washed up on the beach so I figured, why not do suiseki reversed? I have quite a few of them now that I am working on. The fun thing is I am making them with removable stainless steel supports which allows you to switch stone bases or make your own, albeit it is a bit tricky getting the sizes to fit snugly or align well vertically. Here are some pieces I recently finished:
