I freaking love my A5 but retired it from active duty in the woods. I will take it from time to time trap shooting but I need to send it away to get worked on. one day dove hunting over at my buddies farm it went into full auto mode. needless to say my day was cut short. it only happened once but that was one to many times. I have a browning gold hunter 12 that is my turkey and goose gun. I have dropped geese at over 75 yards with that thing. has like a 32 in barrel and my extended range steel chokes really keep a tight pattern at long ranges! its a little shiny tho for the field. If I had the money I would get it dipped in camo[/QUOTE]

Have you pulled the trigger assembly on your Auto 5? I know it's a bit intimidating diving into a A5 but there's a few good videos to assist in doing this....if you need them. Clean the assembly real good and pay close attention to where the hammer latches to the trigger. If this latching point gets worn, or very dirty, the hammer will not latch into position allowing your autoloader to shoot full auto. It can happen but it's pretty uncommon to wear one out. What year is your Auto 5? The Gold Hunter is a great line also, I just prefer the humpback design.

The Model 97 has a unique feature that was eliminated in later pump guns. You can pull the trigger and fire a round, then, without letting up on the trigger, you can pump the action and it will fire upon closing. You can fire every round rapidly without letting up on the trigger. A 97 is a real alley cleaner. Also, watch out when pumping the action. The breach block comes way back and will eat your hand if it's in the way. Send it to Simmons in KS and get a rib put on it when you decide reblue it. Put new fancy wood on it and you'd really have something. Gary

It was my grandfathers and if I remember correctly its from around the 60's. there are very few guns I won't work on and thats one of them. I can't budge the screws that lock the other screws in place and don't want to either snap them or strip the slot out. for that one being that it has so much sentimental value I will have someone who is insured and knows what they are doing work on it. My father has a sweet 1940's era over and under browning I told him I don't want that gun sold lol.

I understand. A set of flat ground screw drivers is the key to removing those Auto 5 screws...without messing up the slot.
