Is there a specific tint or dye that can be used to simulate the age, vintage look on Maple?
Heres an example on the fretboard of my 79 Musicman Sabre bass guitar:

Haven't tried to match "vintage" before but I find blond shellac puts a very fine yellow tint to maple and spruce.

Transtint. It aint cheap.
If you go the route of shellac, TransTint can be used to tint the shellac.

TransTint is potent dye, start with very small amounts when using as a tint for small color changes.

If on bare wood and want to simulate some old/old finishes - as on flintlocks - Aqua Fortis (Iron Nitrate) to bring out the grain, often combined with Tannic Acid for deep color and sometimes Potassium Permanganate, then finished with Linseed Oil

Orange shellac
Yes, something like that and then rub it down with a green Scotch pad or a micro pad of some sort, then a light buff with Turtle Wax. You'd want to smooth any brush or rag strokes and get more of a dull satin sheen than the high gloss.
