Easy Off Oven cleaner works very well to clean off a wood lathe.

Yeah, but folks don't drink it!

Oven cleaners like Easy Off contain Red Devil Lye. Which is also the active ingredient in many drain openers.

I'm assuming, not real sure, that the cleaning power of Monster, is derived from a high concentration of Citric Acid, much like Cocoa Cola. Which is known to work well for cleaning battery terminals, works as an engine degreaser, and other weird things you'd never expect.

I've never tried a Monster drink & don't plan to.

I've never tried one I liked. Damn things all taste like fruity flavored kerosene to me. And, they don't give you any extra energy. Most spin your ass up for about 15 -20 minutes on sugar and caffeine, then you fall off that high and want to take a nap.

5 hour energy, doesn't work for 5 hours either. But they're mostly B12 and other vitamins and minerals, so the boost there is a little longer lasting. Caffeine in those is reportedly about the same as 2 cups of coffee, and virtually no sugar.

Suggested change for @woodtickgreg 's tool rests.
The tool rest in first photo the bottom of the arc where red line & green circle are, gets in the way & if you cut off left of red line and angle where its welded a bit more, similar to tool rest in 2nd photo, it would be easier to use. When my tool handle hits the green circled edge I just raise the tool rest higher to clear it. These are still the best tool rests I used!!

You posted photos of t-shaped rests for someone you made where the post was centered on top bar. They are more useful if you weld the post off center. Example - a 10" rest, weld post 1" left of center which gives a 4" & a 6" sided top bar. 4" side can fit into areas that 5" is to long & the 6" side can fit into areas that 5" is to short.

Thanks for the tips Lee, it is much appreciated. The rest you have could be ground back for the clearance you need. I left them a little large in that area for strength but I understand what you are saying.

I got a cool little package in the mail yesterday. As soon as I opened it I smelled stinky wood! But the good kind of stinky.

Thank you for the corks too, they will be very usefully and are much appreciated. I love this little box, so cool when you open it and smell the camphor.
Thank you very much Lee.

Just out of curiosity, what are the corks used for?

Cole jaws. Tall grips to hold profiles that the original short ones won't hold since they are only 1/2" to 5/8" tall. Synthetic wine corks drilled @ 6mm & bolts @ 6mm x 1.50 with washer atop cork. Fits Nova & Oneway Cole jaws.
Always use lathe tailstock live center for support until cutting the small nub in center!!

I'm going to grind them down but not yet because I love your wood tick stamp on them!

Well I'll be. Good idea. I've been looking at getting some longer ones. Thanks for the idea.

I used to drink one on my ride home from work (NOS). I used to carpool with some guys and the forman. He was a douchebag and never wanted to stop for anything. So no coffee. I kept it cold in my cooler. It was great for the drive, but I don't drink em now that I don't work for that company any more....
