Two bowls

Two bowls made from Chinese Zelkova that came from the Arnold Arboretum. They will be returning to the arboretum and will be given to attendees at an event later this year. Both are a little over 6" diameter and 2" high. It was fun to be back at the lathe.

Beautiful forms and interesting grain. The simple lines/curves of these forms elevate these from what might be utility bowls to art.

Thanks, Tim. I wasn't sure whether they'd be used so I finished them with George's Clubhouse Wax (which is food safe as far as I know).

Nor had I - one of the great things about getting wood from the Arboretum is the truly amazing variety of species that show up. Whenever possible, the harvesting is done to prevent storm & wind damage from getting worse, unless it's beyond recovery when the tree is felled.

The head arborist (actually he's just retired) is a member of the turning club I go to. We are all hoping that the new office holder is as friendly towards the local turning community as his predecessor has been
