I’ve recently made these two small boxes as gifts. Boxes are 4 x 6.5 x 1.5. Cherry sides are only 1/4 thick. Top and bottom are plywood with a variety of veneers. Dividers are 1/8 ebony. Tops are redwood burl veneer and distressed copper veneer.

Both are winners, but the copper veneer leaves me with a couple of questions if you don't mind sharing some secrets. How did you do the distressing (i.e. heat, chemicals, or both)? Also, what kind of glue did you use because I suspect the expansion of copper is different than the wood substrate?

Thanks for the compliments and likes. I'm happy to share some information about the copper. First, I didn't distress the copper veneer, I bought it and the special adhesive.

This is where I buy my copper veneer:
https://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Copper-Veneer-Sample-8-x-10.html

They sell this adhesive to use with copper veneer:

I started using copper veneer on a banjo I built. It has seen all sorts of weather including camping trips, outdoor jam sessions in 90 degree heat and of course my air conditioned home. I have had no problems with movement or adhesion. I will add that I don't have a vacuum press. I used cork padded clamps and it seems to work fine. Here are some pics of the copper on the banjo.

Beautiful work Stephen! Good info about the copper veneer, wasn't familiar with it, I did make a coffee table about 15 years ago and put a copper top on, for the veneer I used 16oz copper which is much thicker than the veneer, and used contact cement. I hadn't considered the movement of the copper (about a 3'x4' piece) and it has buckled and delaminated in a lot of places. Looks like you have got it figured out though....

Good looking boxes Stephen. The folks at veneer supplies are great to work with. They have some wild copper sheets. Jim
