Aloha y'all -
Looking for some blanks to make some guitar slides. I want the hardest wood I can find, but doesn't need to be big. 1.25-1.5" square and just 2.5-4" long. Ironwood? Rosewood? Something very hard anyway and bonus points if it's purty. Cheers -

This is more than just hardness- guitar slides are traditional glass and steel. Practicality being that it needs to glide and slide smoothly across the strings. Any genuine rosewood that is middle density to upper density. I don’t want to be partial to it, but Brazilian rosewood is oily with a tap tone projection between glass and steel plate. I actually have 2 ideal size and dimensions that I have up for sale- it is also quartered. You probably will net 4 slides plus. Brazilian rosewood are roughly 4-1/2 pounds per board foot. Being oily as a fretboard material- you don’t need a finish.

I also have Madagascar spp. and Cocobolo up for sale that will fit your dimensions- those are about 5 pounds per board foot. Both are vintage and well seasoned:

Paul's mineral stained green osage would work, wouldn't it? Seems pretty hard to me, especially if stabilized. Or purpleheart. The piece I have is hard as a rock and ruined some bandsaw blades trying to cut blanks from it.

I’ve got several rosewoods and ebonies that are dense, including Camatillo. I’ve got Pau Rosa, Cumaru and other hard, dense woods depending on what you’re looking for.

Grant do you know what species that is? The common name is used by several wood.

Yup. This is Acacia nigrescens. I got this from a very reputable source, so very high reliability in the species ID.

It's not got the super tight ringed/curly figure of, say, the most popular Acacia (koa), but I think it's quite pretty. :-)
