Looking for Walnut table legs that don’t cost a small fortune. Anybody have a good source or some laying around they don’t plan on using and could sell?

How many do you need?

Any reason you don't want to glue it up with 5/4 ? It makes a more stable leg anyway.
hmm, hadn’t considered it. I’m making a tv stand/entertainment center with two cabinet doors from the bookmatched quilted maple thins from Mike. Kind of building it backwards since I already started the cabinet doors and I’m piecing it together as I go so changing them to a glue up wouldn’t hurt. Guess I had some turned legs in mind and didn’t think of doing them that way.

If you watch your grain pattern and use a jointer grade finish before glue up, especially with a good dark walnut, you can hide the joints pretty well.

I’ve made a couple sets of custom bathroom vanity legs for a local cabinet maker.
He provided the wood. Pretty sure they were 3x3x42?. One set White Oak and another was Walnut. Both times he gave me glue-ups. I think 3-pieces per leg.

Beautiful work John, your lathe is pretty sweet too! May I ask what you charge for custom work like that? I would like to get into more of that and know a few cabinet makers that I’ve had some talks with about this and really would like to get some idea of what other’s doing similar work are charging for this. We can start a pm if you are open to discussing it with me.

@Billy if you decide to go with the glue up option I can supply you with 15/16” x 3” x 36” blank’s heartwood two face . $6 per piece plus UPS shipping. Here is a picture of one that I cut. I’ll post pictures of 12 if you decide to go this route? Looks like shipping for 12 would be $35 +\-.

Thank you Rob! This sounds like a great option for me and will take you up on it. If you can do 15 i can have a little wiggle room in case I mess one up, but if not, the 12 will do just fine and am truly grateful either way. I trust you’ll hook up the goods, no need to post pics unless you think there’s something questionable. I’ll shoot you a pm with my info and we can iron out the details.

This will most certainly do the trick and looks kosher from this angle. Thanks for sharing ;) Payment incoming and anticipation already kicking in! Cheers Rob
