Hello from central Mississippi. Most of what I have done in the past has been flatwork but in the last year I’ve shifted to wood turning. I learned the basics from my dad starting with toys as a child to cabinet making in retirement and learn/improve with each project.

My wife and I are currently building a new home and after years of things on the cheap side, I get to spend some of my children’s inheritance and build a dream shop (man cave) attached to the house. It seems to be taking up most of my time lately so my tools are just gathering dust right now But that will change in a few months.

Part of the fun of woodworking is figuring out how to make something you see. Another part is the joy you see in others eyes when you give them a gift they weren’t expecting. However best is the when the world goes away as you immerse yourself in a project.

Here are a few things I’ve made.

Nice work! Welcome from a central Arkansas resident (who used to spend a lot of time with family in Starkville, and has at least driven through Jackson and up the Trace more times than I can remember)!

Webb, on your work bench, the 2 loops that look like handles on the side, are they slides that go into the holes in the bench top for holding work items?

Welcome from Austria. Nice work. I am assuming that the bench doesn’t look like that anymore. Read our rules and ignore the Texans. Posting four more times will get you access to the rest of the forum.
 
Welcome from SE NC, Webb! Love the rolling bench, and your furniture is fantastic. You'll enjoy it here.

My family and I lived in the Jackson area for a number of years and loved it and the people (and the duck hunting). Fair warning, there's a rascally character from Jayess that pops in and out here that we like to have fun with, so don't take offense at any Mississippi (or Sillissippii as we often refer to it) pokes - they are aimed at Tony and not the more normal general population of your great State.

Those are holdfast and can be used on top or where they are located when using the side vise.

Thank you. Are you insinuating it might have a patina on It now? 🤣 Hmmm, as I look at it, it might could possible use a resurfacing. Can image how that hard maple and pecan got that way.

Question for you - Why are some pictures I tried to post get rejected because the file is too large yet others were excepted and all were from photo files on my iPad?

You can see the patina in the picture. I thought the woodworkers here would appreciate a little eye candy - A lignum vitae and purple heart matched set of mortise chisels that I made to match a mallet. I had some HSS bar stock left over from a project so the cost was zippo.

I recently took pictures in normal light that were about 4 MB and posted them. . . went outside ten minutes later, took some flash pictures, and could not post them because they were 22 MB each. I do not know why. I must assume that Android and Samsung know why they changed the resolution without warning or explanation. I am but a mere mortal with an analog brain not made for these digital times.

Seriously, though -- maybe the resolution on your photos changed without your notice?

Beautiful work that you've posted & nice introduction.

We've got a few members from Mississippi and I'm very familiar with central Mississippi myself having lived there for a few years much earlier in life. Still visit family there on occasion.

@woodtickgreg might know. Why some pics work and others don’t I can’t tell you. I am not that tech savvy.

Only time I have had that issue is with avatar pics, they have to be reduced. It might be that way with thumbnails also but I'm not really sure.

thank you. To give an idea of differences wood density, the LV mallet weighs 28 ounces and the walnut one weighs 13 ounces.
