What free wood did you find today?

Wife and I were out for breakfast. I showed a pic of my locust bowl to a fellow turner and the next table over said
" Hey, I have a nice walnut log at home. You want it? I was going to cut it for boards but would rather you turn something."
He is bringing it with him next week so I'll grab a pic then.
We go out every Tuesday to meet our friend.

Love those random opportunities! Congrats! Chuck

Bad news, the Box Elder Tree fell over onto the property from the washway just below the pump station. It could be good news if it's got some flaming wood inside it. (a.k.a. very pretty bowls.)

The people showed up today and gave me a nice 28 x 8 inch walnut log. Seems dry enough to work with. Now I need to figure out what to make them out of it.

You wanting some 4/4 or ....?
I just hate to see clear logs like that cut up into blanks. Around here where I cut firewood, clear/furniture grade logs are few and far between. I hope you didn't take offense, it wasn't criticism. Just thought there would be better use of the big logs.

No offense taken. I have some walnut and cherry cut into dimensional lumber at my buddies farm in the barn. I don't have room to store it here now. If'n when I get my shop, I will saw those good clear ones into some lumber. I can get more logs when the time comes.
