What free wood did you find today?

Similar thing happened to me. Plenty to do, plenty of wood - but a neighbor took out a Texas Mt. Laurel ( Sophora a small legume) stump and all. Of course I had to turn around grab the goodies and head home. Free wood is free wood!
Whatever it was that I was headed to do will come to me soon - I hope it wasn’t to pick my wife up from the airport. Jim

I see some no longer list it as a Sophora....
Dermatophyllum secundiflorum

Either way, yet another wood I have never worked. Nice score.
Mark - Do we know of any end-grain photos of this species on-line? Just curious about identifying. I Googled it, but nothing is coming up in my search.

Was wondering what that stuff looked like on the inside. Always got in trouble rubbing the seeds real fast on my jeans and then touching the hot bean to a girl's arm. Lil Mikey was a bit of a rascal!

We rubbed them on concrete or a hard caliche rock. They do get hot! I did use other methods to meet girls though.

Congrats! Lots of good lumber there! Chuck
There'll be some. This was from one tree. Pieces a logging company left. Some of the ends are hollow so I guess that's why they left them. Those chunks I don't know why they were cut. To me it looks like they will have some good figure in them but I'm assuming the loggers just cut them off the ends of what they kept.

Big tree, the long sections couple of them are roughly 18 inch diameter.

The chunks are likely length trimmings where they had a defect that would have scored the log a grade or two lower and actually brought less money for a longer log.

Thank you Verizon for clearing your lines! Cut and stacked along the road.
