What free wood did you find today?

@Mr. Peet I will see what I can do, hopefully by the end of September.
Most are small and cracked logs, hence possibly unable to yield IWCS size samples.

@vegas urban lumber there's a number of recipes including some sort of coffee and liquor from the seeds or cakes based on flour from ground pods.

This maple was over in the road that runs in front of my house. I have been watching it for several months as it slowly started leaning toward the ground. The base and several feet up has alot of bumpy areas on it that lead me to believe it could have some curly figure? The road crew cut and pushed it out the way. I got a couple of pcs but don't know about the dark center? It is solid but dont know if it is worth dealing with? IMG_2949.jpeg IMG_2948.jpeg

Also, suggest sprinkling borax or Ajax powder over this wet maple while it’s drying out to reduce mold chances unless you’re wanting try your hand at spalting.

Typhoon Gaemi ripped through my area. I don’t have a wood working space at the moment, so I didn’t take advantage of it nearly as much as I could have, but I remember a bunch of people asking for Banyan. Looks like I’ll have a lot now!

This wasnt quite free, so I hope i may post it on here... I paid the homeowner $100 and he loaded it for me with his skidloader...
Persimmon about 24" diameter and 11" long. Butt end is rotten, not sure how far it reaches, but figured I would give it a chance!

Congrats! Call the wood free, you paid him $100 to load it on the trailer! I’ve heard Persimmon is a really fine wood to work with. Chuck

Paolo,

I have a sample of Nerium oleander, but mine is a 2 part laminate. Would like a solid sample some day.

Plenty good on the Melia.

I have a single sample of Quercus ilex taken next to pith, rift cut. A second flatsawn sample would be great.

Good on the Grevilea also.

Turns out I do not have any Quercus suber samples, just a piece of pen stock. So would love to buy a few samples.

Also see I do not have any Acacia salinga samples either.

And as said already, lack any samples of:
Pistacia lentiscus, Phyllirea latifolia, Cytisus spinosus
I also collected these:
- schinus molle
- vachellia karroo
- euphorbia dendroides
- albizia lopantha
- jucca spp.
Do you need any of them?

Also, if I cannot reach the IWCS size shall I give up? Or shall I provide smaller samples?

You just focus on your wants. I can wait for full size samples. Thank you.

We discovered that the Cherry (given to me yesterday) was from a tree that fell in the storm at the old cemetery. So, we got as much as possible before the slope was too steep. We've totaled 46 blanks of various sizes to this point.

Forgive me I have sinned. Or at least committed a crime :lol2: . I cut some small 12-14" dia. Cherry up into firewood this Spring and it set on my driveway until recently. Logs were small and weren't straight so instead of milling them, firewood. Started splitting them and one of the logs was full of curl. Most were split too badly from setting around that I couldn't make bowl blanks. I was able to save small pieces big enough for bottle stoppers and pens, though. Gave most of the usable pieces to a friend.

I wasted so much potential in wood I've brought home because I process it to late. Something else always comes up.
I just wish I had gotten to it sooner and then there would be bigger pieces. I'll definitely check for curl in the next pile of cherry I get. I can honestly say I've never run into curly cherry before in all the logs (20+?) that I've cut up. This log was a waste.
