These Catalpa chunks were headed to the burn pile at my friends house. I asked for them and he brought them to work today and they got a pickup truck ride back to my house.
Some great looking chunks of wood there! Be sure to post what you make with them. Chuck
If that pic was in Nashville, some idiot would be reporting that they saw "the bear"! And it would be all over the news.

I got about 4-5 cords of free live oak logs and branches yesterday. I didn't take any pictures but the next time I go out in the heat I'll snap a few of the pile. It wasn't exactly free though. I paid the tree trimmers $1400 for 8 hrs of trimming. Got three good 10' logs 15"-20" in diameter. Gave the honcho an extra C-note and a list of desirable tree types with good trunks to hold back for me. Told him I'd come pick them up. Already got a line on two big Cedar logs. He doesn't want them and said I could have them for the hauling.
So, I guess it all evens out. I had to get the trees trimmed anyway and I'm too old to be doing that stuff. I'll cut it on the ground but I don't bounce quite like I used to.

Been wanting some wet maple for months. Friend Jerry, one of the club’s founding members, just took down this huge maple tree. Went over and picked some up this morning. Dan is turning a chunk using my Thompson 3/4” bowl google. His first time turning wet wood.

My son and i found some petrified wood while collecting rocks near Tonopah NV today.
this piece, is the only one i've ever seen that actually looks like it had curly grain pattern before being petrified

the petrified wood from this area has a fossilized algae coating on it as well
this picture shows the wood in very dark brown on the bottom and a thick layer of the algae over that.

Petrified wood is awesome. I have a handful of pieces around, though all ones I've purchased - including a small cookie that has been polished. I would really like to find some myself someday.
Took out a dead Mexican Plum from a property yeaterday. Got home and anchor sealed everything.
