What free wood did you find today?

Ok, this is probably boring to many of y'all, but makes Lil Mikey Jiggly (did not have to look that one up in a thesaurus!) He was sitting at his desk dreaming of purdy wood when he heard a familiar sound that was not a train (we office next to a RR.). Immediately recognized the sound and shot up outta the chair, cleared the cobwebs outta the eyes and looked out the window. At Alan Jackson's fan club building, they were cutting down a mature bradford pear. Shrieking like a Valykrie, Lil Mikey runs out the rear door and across the parking lot only to find out the chain saw operater - No Comprende - no habla ingles. Fortunately his handler walked up and I was able to convince them to set a few pieces off to the side.

"Turns like Buttah!" And since my last spoon was long dead and HARD mulberry, might give a try with a Bradford Pear spoon! Biggest about 14' dia crotch - smallest 8" Don't got none of that fancy end grain sealer so went went with multiple coats of exterior latex.

Congrats! So nice to luck into free logs! Chuck

Stopped by a friends house today to pick up the last remaining pcs of a catalpa he cut down awhile back. It took both of us to load the two biggest pcs. Hopefully the forked pc will have some character to it? 9C0BA2CE-380E-4423-BF62-46E620138B11.webp 99DBED9D-5D21-4558-B7E6-7E3299639131.webp

Well, I planted a 3 section grafted weeping cherry on a remodeling job in the early 90's. My nephew has been caring for the grounds the past few years. Husband died and a new husband in place so the couple is "revamping". The tree I planted came down and nephew save me two pieces. One has the upper graft interface (has rot) and the other is the Mazzard cherry center stem.

A few days ago, Ray Sub 2 and I drove over to Walla Walla. Among other things I found some clear hard maple that I had been looking for. Cut it into 8 3/4X3X3 pieces. Ray got a nice piece of catalpa. Life was good that day.

The neighbor across the street grew some huge sunflowers this summer and asked if I had any use for these stalks, which look pretty cool. A club member and friend stabilizes a lot of sage brush and thought he might like these. He is interested. Years ago we went to Oregon and got some wood. They guy had some marijuana plants and we brogot some vine home and it was stabilized. At the time I made a pen out of it and posted it on WB. Will see how this goes.

Not free, but pretty close to it. Went to a moving sale near where I live and found a bunch of wood in the basement. Most of it was pine boards, but With a little more digging I found these beauties. Some really nice curly walnut. Not sure what species of walnut, but purdy non the less.
You also get a preview of a knife I’m working on for a customer.
