What free wood did you find today?

What's the species?

Mahogany tree cut down up the street today. Who’s crazy enough to take a cart there and have three guys stuggle to get it on. Take it home and trim it up. This is half the log. 32” across and 15” deep. And dumb enough to plan on mounting it on my lathe. Going to make sure my affairs are in order before I start.

Holy bejesus. :shok:

Holy cussword. How much does that thing weigh? Any idea?
I know I trimmed off 150 plus pounds. Probably started out at 5 to 6 hundred pounds. That is just the half. I originally was going to take both halves but changed my mind after dealing with this.:shok:

Amazing! Please be sure to document your demise on the lathe! Chuck

Went out and did a nice 7.5 mile hike a couple days ago and came across something I’ve never seen before, but have been hoping to find eventually. An abandoned orchard. It was pretty small, only about 8-10 trees, but the trunks of these guys were huge, like 2-3 feet across.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of the orchard itself. But I did find a large branch broken off on the ground, so I have a piece of that. I plan on going back in the near future to bring home more of that branch as the wood is just that beautiful.

Wow! nice, cuban Mahogany? Ya gonna turn it on a PM2035?

A NorEaster hit NE last week and wreaked havoc in the lakes region. Lost electricity early thu morn and finally got it back about 1500 sun. Fallen trees and branches are still being cleared off the roads today, mostly conifers, poplar and birch. Grabbed these cut pieces this morn, sealed and got them on the pile.

Congrats! Nice haul! Chuck

My neighbor had a main branch of his mountain ash (I think that's what it is) die off and he had a crew cut it down yesterday. The largest section is maybe 5 - 6" diameter. Has some nice looking grain but I don't turn so I just looked at it.
