A few small cork oak logs from the dump, being sealed. I expect massive flecks!

You gotta try and get your hands on buloke or hairy oak from Australia. They have flecks that are wider than my toenails are thick.

You may laugh, I have a cork oak, bark sample in my reference collection but lack any wood samples...
Try soaking it in peg that should displace the water in the wood with the glycol. You may have to seal it to keep it full but that has been done with good effect in the past. I have heard of other methods like boiling but I haven't seen the evidence.

Peg has been around since before the 70's. A friend had some that I put something in, and there were no cracks when I worked whatever it was that I Pegged. I just know I used it, but don't remember what I used it on. ............ Nubs
So the purpose of peg is to prevent cracks, or slow down the drying process? Where does one buy peg?
Correct on Peg's purpose, but since the stuff was someone else's, I used it only that one time. All the other woods I used in my business were purchased kiln dried. Never had a need to get more. .......... Nubs

PEG, polly-ethylene-glycol, as least that was what we called it 25 years ago...

I use to get a green wood end sealer from them that was pretty good. They don't carry that any more either.
