I always found it very flecky. In this case there was a higher colour contrast which disappeared with drying.Does all cork oak look like that?
Some of us have a warped sense of humor.I'm board with these bad puns, they are all falling flat.
Congrats! Great haul!Ran to the log yard today and found all these cherry logs.

Second photo is from the other end of the first one. The logs aren't large, 14" - 18" dia., and some rot in two of them may only yield 6' logs. The middle log is nice and straight but again only 14" dia. Buried on the left in the 1st photo is another long 14" log that looks good. Photo #3 shows another buried possibility. In photo #4 looks good from this side, but the other end revels a lot of rot. Log on the right will be turned into firewood. In the last photo (#5), the two bigger logs have rot almost all the way to the butt and the smaller logs have been cut into firewood.
Bottom line, all the big logs are mostly rotten but I may get 3 or 4 14" saw logs. Fingers crossed.
I'm not done yet! More work to do and it's suppose to be over 90 degrees and humid all week. Chop some more up for BBQ wood then start trimming the big ones to see what I've got. Then try to pull out the buried logs with my truck. 14 inch logs aren't reall big enough to be considered saw log, but I just hate to waste good cherry. Common sense my prevail and they may be butchered up into firewood too.Congrats! Great haul!
I wish I had a band mill or a friend with one. I have a lot more logs from the yard sawn into lumber. I've got my eye on a clear 14" dia white oak log too. With a band mill, you simply saw down to the rot, turn over and saw down to the rot again, then chunk the remainder into firewood. With a csm, the workload is more, so the smaller boards aren't worth it especially with the extra inch of kerf loss every 3rd board.
@gvwp is next door in Indiana...I wish I had a band mill or a friend with one. I have a lot more logs from the yard sawn into lumber. I've got my eye on a clear 14" dia white oak log too.
