It seems there has been some discussion on the subject of using grape wood. I cut a piece yesterday to see what it looked like. If anyone is interested in trying it i would be happy to send it to you. They measure
2 1/8"x 7/8"x 14".
It is green and sealed. It seems to have a rather fine grain to it.

As in, from a grape vine? If so, I'd be interested in giving it a try.

Sweet - I'd be interested in trying it out. I'll send you a PM tomorrow. I'll put it in a nice, cool place to dry and see how it dries. Once dried I'll give it a try on a pen or two and see how it goes.

I'm interested in this, let me know how it goes Matt. Tony

I stabilized some grapevine a few weeks ago and I haven't done anything with it yet. Does not look very interesting.
May I will try and turn it today.

@Tony @ironman123 The vine this came from is quite long. I will get some more of it sometime next week and you guys some pieces if you would like. Certainly no shortage of them around here. Also I began to wonder about the vines other guys have tried. Some folks likened it to "a bundle of straws". That would certainly be true for the sapwood on this piece, but the heart seems quite solid. More like oak IMO. Will be interesting to see how it goes.

John, I just sent you a PM with my address. If you need me to cover shipping, let me know and I'll be happy to send you something for shipping.

Also, once the pieces are dry and I give them a try, if it works out for making pens, I'd be happy to send a completed from the wild grape one your way.

John, could I also get in line for lil bit? I'm interested as well. I have a bunch of wino friends who might dig this as a bottle stopper...

Here is a picture of grapevine I stabilized with green dyed Cactus Juice. Turned round and added some walnut oil to make the grain show better WIN_20160221_172117.webp

John, no worries! It's going to have to sit and dry anyways! I'm extra busy this time of year too - and right now I'm focused more also on the fact that at about any moment my wife could say, "It's time," and then it's a mad dash to the hospital...

John, I received the box yesterday. Didn't realize you were sending a whole large flat rate box full! Wow!

I'll get something headed your way from the grape vine when I've had a chance to work with it and see how it goes - even if I need to see about getting it stabilized.
