Hi I made this cutting board for my wife today. I used part of an old cutting board I picked up at a rummage sale. I assumed it was maple but after I applied the walnut oil it was much darker than maple get when you oil it. The light colored Piece is a scrap from the cutting board I used for this project, it is unfinished. Does anybody have any Idea what this wood is. Thanks

here are some endgrain shots but they are very faint because the end grain is not very pronounced almost like quater sawn. If it wasn't for the glue joint it is very difficult to determine what is the endgrain.
