I've got one also!!Dead presidents is what it takes, lol. But I don't know if he's made any in awhile. He usually batch builds them.
I almost always work with rough sawn lumber so it just part of the process for me. Milling lumber is very therapeutic for me. I actually enjoy it. Plus I also chainsaw mill most of my lumber, this build will be all from wood that I have chainsaw milled. That's a lot of planing. Nice to work with wood that is all the exact same size and square all around though.
I prefer rough cut. That way if it is screwed up I know who to blame. So many times /most of the time, planed lumber has not been done right. Always ends up being spendy bins of chips.I almost always work with rough sawn lumber so it just part of the process for me. Milling lumber is very therapeutic for me. I actually enjoy it. That made me chuckle because it seems like I'm always working with wood that isn't square or straight or the same dimension.I almost always work with rough sawn lumber so it just part of the process for me. 3 5/8" but I may go a little thicker just depends on how it cleans up after the glue up. This is based on the height of the vise I plan to install.Gonna be a beast of a bench! Remind me again, what's the top thickness you are shooting for?
Not much to show, just gluing and clamping and scraping off squeeze out, lol. I did have a short day at work so down to the shop I went.
3rd one is in the clamps. More glue has been ordered, lol.

Hack for you! No need to order more. Scoop all that glue off the top of the boards and before it hardens, put it back in the bottle. Looks like you'll have a full bottle again.
You keep building it like a rich man should, pay no attention to the comments of these peasants.Yeah I got a little carried away with this one, oops! I took the cap off the bottle and just pored it on.

Yeah I'm just going a quart at a time, just opened the second quart. I may use close to a gallon because I'll be laminating all the stock for the legs too. But by purchasing quarts it will always be fresh glue and I won't have a lot leftover to separate and go bad on the shelf. It can be stirred if it separates but I'd rather not do that.Greg, that's going to be one stout bench. I certainly enjoyed building mine - benches are fun to build. I'd gladly build another, if I could find a good excuse to do so.
As far as glue usage goes, I'd read of so many people saying they went through nearly a gallon of glue doing their benches. So I bought a gallon in preparation of building mine. I used about 1/3 of the jug and really wished that I had not done what everyone else said to do and bought a whole gallon. As of now, I still have almost a half gallon of it a few years later.
