Work bench build - picture heavy.

I’m thinking about the rockler kit as well. I am loving having my shop vac under the workbench and the remote switch
I have one of those kits hooked up to my miter saw. I really like the hose.

So I had to move this walnut slab to get to the ash. Someday this will be my new coffee table.

So I'm finally down to the ash. Time to start processing it.

I snap chalk lines to cut off the live edge and cut the 2" thick material with a circular saw. I changed the blade to a new Freud Diablo after this pic. This wood is really dry and hard.

I find that two pieces of 2x material bring a singer treadle sewing machine base to the right height of a black and decker workmate.

As luck would have it, I kept my treadle base and workmate just knowing a use would come with them!

Greg, I tried editing the post but may have just confused things. Just wanted to share that I have the sewing machine base and Workmate too! 😄
That's cool brother, I dig the b&d workmates. And now I found another use for the singer sewing machine base, I've got a few of them.

Got another one in the clamps, one more to go and then I can glue the ash on the outsides of the walnut.
Two jointed on 2 sides.

I worked my butt off today rough processing the rest of the ash for the bench legs and cross stretchers.
Here we go.......

When i was chainsaw milling this log 10 years ago I hit a couple of nails, just cut them out. This tree was in a backyard and it probably had a bird house or bird feeder nailed to it when it was a young tree.

I think i got one good 7" wide board out of this slab. Other side had lots of carpenter ant damage.

This was the last board from the 2 logs, sinc I i was still set up I ripped the wane off and temporarily used it for a miter saw bench, lol.

The 7" wide boards i needed for the rest of the leg and base stock.

I cut the 9' long boards down to 5' and 3'

I worked for 7 Hours today, lots of heavy lifting working by myself. I worked well past dark. Short days kinda suck now.
The reward for my efforts. This is the last of the stock I need.

Scrap for the fire pit. Needs to be cut up yet.

More scrap, lots of carpenter ant damage.

I carried all the wood down to the shop and stickered it to acclimate a bit.

I've got materials to keep me busy for awhile now.

I hear you about the body, I been rebuilding a shower and it's taking about twice as long as I had it scheduled for. My knees and back are talking to me about why I thought I was still 30.

How much crotch feather is in that scrap pile of yours? 8/4 ash crotch figure is getting a bit harder to find you know...

Not much if any. This was a very tall and straight tree. The canopy was very high, I didnt get any of that.

The age old struggle of a woodworker, not enough clamps and not enough room for the crap you're building.

:drinks:
It is what it is. I make do with what I have. I have more than some and less than others. But I'm always happy to be in my shop. It's not a race when I'm in my shop, I'm under no time constraints and I work at my own pace. And I'm happy to be making something for me that I have wanted for a long time. Right now I have a lot of material in the shop. And a lot of scrap, lol.

When I was going to make my wifes table from walnut and curly maple, I wanted to make legs like this but split again and add more walnut. Add another piece of walnut where the red line is. Sort of a cross of walnut.
