Aloha y'all -
Does anyone know if this wood is at all available in the US? I'm interested in the woodturning tradition in Channapatna (among other places) which uses colorful lac sticks applied to pieces on the spinning lathe to create a saturated, colorful, durable finish. Apparently this is the local wood widely used.
I am sure the technique could be applied to any number of different woods, and I've had some promising results so far, but if anyone knows a source for this wood, I would like to get some so I have a frame of reference.
Cheers -
Gregg
