I have a request to make a custom urn for a friend and will be needing a large spalted maple blank for this project as it was a rather large man 330lbs. I would like to get something 8" square or round x 14" long. Let me know what you have and for this purpose it needs to be something that is ready to use no time to wait for it to dry out so need moisture content to be low. Do not want anything that has to be stabilized as I don't have time for this project.

Send pic's and price.

You may need to find a set of bookmatched flitches that have been dried and glue them back together to create a nearly seamless laminated blank.

Have this defect free Phi blank that holds the size you’re looking for. It‘s been drying in a climate controlled shop for years and measures below 5%. My chainsaw is in the shed that is snowed in til spring so will ship as is in an 18” cube from 03810. Will trade for defect free production blanks that fit in with the last pic… what you got?

Would you be willing to sell it? Most of my wood hoard for trading is buried in my shop and I can't access until I drain my large fish tanks that are blocking that area in the spring. They are full of the tilapia I overwinter in shop.

Nice wood always interests me and your avatar lured me to offer the trade. Could cut this up and finish into 16 lamps or two 15x4.5 bowls for a known value. The completed pics are the same wood, will lose too much if sell as is so will pass. Hope you find your unicorn.

Can you elaborate a bit more on the type of wood it is? I’m not familiar with “Phi”. Never heard of it and a search on Google reveals nothing at all. Hard or softwood? Imported to the states? Other names maybe?

The wood is maple as requested in the thread title and indicated on the blank. A Phi blank refers to the relation of it‘s diameter to height measurements.
The definition of Phi is the golden ratio, also known as the golden number, golden proportion, or the divine proportion, is a ratio between two numbers that equals approximately 1.618. Usually written as the Greek letter Phi, it is strongly associated with the Fibonacci sequence, a series of numbers wherein each number is added to the last.
