Watch FBM & craigslist for your area. Deals pop up all the time, you just have to be able to jump when they first pop up.

He'll, Just let Tony know that you might be interested in a bandsaw and he will fill your inbox with deals! He will love spending your money! :texas:

@Tony
Is Tony a bandsaw dealer? Lol

Here is one that was popped up yesterday that will definitely resaw for you although it won't meet your space requirements & a short drive from your area. :hi:

Hey Ryan - If you're interested in a road trip down to Southern Maryland at some point, I have a 12" lathe that's in excellent condition and has not been used in quite some time.

It's a General International from Canada. I believe the model is the VS Maxi. It's a variable speed, with reverse, 12" x 17" (roughly) with an outboard option (I have the extension post for the tool rest). The headstock also swivels with positive indents for an even larger platter or similar item. Digital speed display with 3 speed ranges that run from about 300 - 3,500+. 1" spindle. I'm sure you can find more specs online if you're interested. The attached pic is NOT my lathe as I'm not home, but is the one I have. It's in great shape and runs incredibly smooth.

I haven't tried to sell it as I wanted to keep it for smaller projects when I have something larger in the works. Long story, but somehow I've now ended up with 3 lathes including a 20" Powermatic and a 16" Nova Galaxi, so this one just sits idle. I've turned up to just shy of 11" bowls on it, which is where your new bandsaw will come in handy. Start with a well-balanced blank and you're off to the races. In my opinion, it's an absolutely fantastic machine for its size and weight.

If you're interested in discussing it, send me a message and we can go from there. Good luck on the quest for both; that's half the adventure!

I have an older delta with a riser on it and it works well. I don't do a lot of resawing either and what I do is mostly in the sizes you've quoted. I also use it to rough out bowl blanks. I've also had good luck with supercut bandsaw blades that @Mike1950 recommended to me. Older deltas can be had for fair prices, jets are about the same and all are clones of each other including grizzly. Only one I would avoid is ridgid. Most wear parts can be had for the older 14" saws.

Before the switch upgrade.

And after the upgrade. Mods to these saws are easy.

Only real downside to any of the 14" saws is the dust collection is non existent. I'm still contemplating installing a 4" dust port in the lower wheel cover.
You have to be patient when looking for one of these old saws and be prepared to just go get one when a deal pops up as the right priced ones don't last long.

Thanks. I have seen Deltas like this come up once in a while on marketplace. I dont really know what a good deal is for any of these, especially considering there seems to be so many options for motors and such.

I typically see them in the $300 to $500 range in my area. Usually a drive to a rural area will get a better deal sometimes. The key is to act fast when one at a good price pops up.

That riser block is important in price considerations I just recently learned. In my, makes a differ saw.

You can learn the basics and still do plenty of useful work (just no big bowls for now). For resawing, you’re totally right: a machine that actually handles 1/2″ blades makes life so much easier, and most 10″ saws really struggle with that. A good 14″ bandsaw will give you a lot more resaw capacity and versatility. For Philly pickup, definitely mention your budget and whether you want wheels/casters. That’ll help folks recommend specific 14″ models. Delta, Jet, and Grizzly all have solid 14″ options that work well for resawing if they have a decent throat and good blade guides. If not, feel free to reach out Sawblade.com. They can help you with blade, saw, and the guides.

I'd be looking for a good bang for buck option. Something easy to learn on. I don't want to spend to much - ideally under $500. I would like to use it on a workbench - Mount it to a workbench. So a stand and wheels wouldn't be needed. But then again, i dont know if this is a dumb idea or not since I've never used one before.

I don’t think a bench top bandsaw would be powerful enough for the cutting you’ve mentioned. Chuck

I was getting mixed up trying to feed my toddler while typing lol. I meant a benchtop lathe. I already have a benchtop bandsaw, and that's why I'm looking for a bigger one.

As for a bandsaw, it doesn't need to be on wheels, but i suppose that would be nice. I can always put it on wheels myself though... No big deal. I already have some have duty locking casters that are unused. I'm more inclined to spend more on a lathe than a bandsaw since i really only want the bandsaw to be a dedicated resawing tool. I can go no frills and ancient with a bandsaw. I just need relatively easy tracking and flexibility in adjusting it. Aftermarket part availability might be a good thing to consider too i assume.

If you get into turning you will use the bandsaw more than you think you will. You'll use it for roughing out bowl blanks from both green wood and drier woods. A good 3 or 4 tooth 1/2" blade will work well for that.

There is at least one woodturning guild in your area. Good chance someone in guild has a mini lathe & bandsaw fer sale.

Go to woodturner.org to find guild.

I was more referring to the fact that I already own a benchtop bandsaw that I can use for detail work and quick cuts. I'm only looking for a larger one now, because resawing on the benchtop bandsaw is chewing through blades. But I could just as well make the larger bandsaw the workhorse bandsaw and leave the benchtop one dedicated to detail cutting.

I'm just putting this out there in case anything comes up, but presumably this would need to be a local deal due to weight.

I'm interested in exploring wood turning, but space is very much at a minimum in my shop. So I think I could only swing a mini lathe at most. Most everything I'd want to turn could be done on a mini lather anyway (except bowls *sigh*).

I also quickly realized after getting my Rikon 10-3061 that resawing the types of wood I most like to use means running through lots and lots of bandsaw blades. Also, the 10-3061 really cant run 1/2" blades, despite being advertised as such. So I think I might be better off just getting a standard 14". I dont know what brand or model. I just know I want it to resaw.

Would need to be able to pickup in Philadelphia region, unless you own a shipping company :D Would also appreciate recommendations on models if you feel so inclined.
I live in Delaware and have a Jet 1015 I would like to sell. It isn’t variable speed.
