Hello folks....I already postei this video from JKM about the blade using 90⁰ for plane difficult grain wood.Lie Nielsen stop to make this blade.
Recently I visited Canada and was in Ottawa and Kingston Lee Valley stores.I found a O1 50⁰ BU blade for my Bevel Up Smoothing plane (I have since 2013).The O1 is 20 bucks less expensive than PM-V11 and easier to hone.I just use a dimond stone and hone the sharp edge to 90⁰ in a very small amount (around 1 mm).
The results are outstanding.
See the pictures below:
Blades I kept original angle
Blade I transform in 90⁰ angle
Diamond stone at 400 and 1200 grain
90⁰ position
Just a small part
Hardwood using normal angle plane
Tear up
The same wood at 90⁰ angle...shavings so nice
Like a glass...you can see the part of deep tear out still there but around everything is perfect
Shining
Thanks for attention
