She's on sabbatical in China. The best English teachers are all over there and she feels like she needs to brush up a bit . . .

Yup, that's how I took it.
When something's funny it doesn't matter to me who it's about.

OH CRAP! Just caught it, LOL
I don't even have an excuse for that mis-spelling, but I'm going with not enough coffee at the time.

I meant it as a play on the saying, "Is that a mouse in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"

I always heard it was a banana.

Anyone heard from @Brink I PMd him a couple days ago but no word. Not like him. Kinda worried.

Especially both at the same time in the same pair of dockers!

Heck Ken, there's forums you can't go on due to the grammar, language, terms, ETC.
I understand Redneck real good, Canadian just fine, the Aussie's get tricky with some expressions, but you can usually cipher it out given some thought. I don't even care about bad spelling. It's the ones using nothing but abbreviations that try my patience. When folks have to abbreviate 3 letter words continuously, I'd sure hate to see them build a fence. LOL

Ahh, the one I had in mind used the entire allocation of exclamation marks in the first chapter! And had typos! And really poorly written grammar! Than they'd get some words confused!

Drove me nuts.

I've always heard mouse and wished to hear banana. Oh well, I'll keep wishing........

It's ok Tony....we don't judge here...you can come out if you want.

While I'm no stranger to some abbreviations, I have to agree with ya Allan, I also think that they do it because they can't spell it. It's the dumbing down of America.....

Which book are you referring to? I'd love to write a scathing review for it.... (insert twisted evil smilie here)

... And had typos! ...

I work at a newspaper; the features editor receives dozens of "advance review copy/uncorrected proof" books every month, and most of them end up on a bookshelf where folks can help themselves if there's anything interesting.

These days I only take the actual release copies, I simply can't enjoy a book that's full of typos or grammatical errors no matter how good the plot and story line. And, honestly, I don't see many books that have a decent plot and are well-written prose. The least they can do is get the language right.

Jes' found this hear thread and glad ta know that I ain't not the onliest wun that finds the amusing and annoying thangs in what peeps say and publish.
It hurt me to write like that.

I'm often dismayed with what so called "professional" people present expecting me to listen or read. I "get" to listen to pharm reps almost daily, and fairly often get to scratch my head when reading journals--wondering what are they trying to get across. Better yet, ask a cogent question and at best get the "deer in the headlights" look. Ok--off the soap box.

Yes I think it's a grate idea to have a vocabalary list that might affect my woodworking "speak" to make it be more effective. (The misspells were intentional, I'm one of those that can pick out misspells and syntax issues without thinking about it).
I saw that there may be a list of acronyms already, will look for that.
